#7 - The Personal Development Concept Most Beach Players Miss (And pay big time for!)

Welcome to the first solo-episode on the Learn Beach Volleyball Fast podcast! When starting this podcast, I wanted to create lots of different types of episodes, and this type of episode was definitely a part of the plan.

In some of these solo-episodes, I will follow a simple formula: personal development concept + beach volleyball = episode idea. Basically I will take lessons from the personal development/business/self help/psychology space and apply them specifically to beach volleyball…

3 Reasons that make it much Harder (or Impossible!) for Players to Change their Beach Volleyball Technique

Have you ever tried to change a technique in your beach volleyball game, but found it really difficult, and time-consuming? Maybe it took you months before it was actually something that worked in games without you needing to think about it, or maybe you just gave up and still to this day do things with your old technique that people and coaches critique over and over?

Almost every time I coach, I meet people who have really struggled with this in the past, and one of my specialties in coaching is to make this a non-struggle. A few months ago, after having observed some players who had a hard time changing their technique for several different reasons, my brain started categorizing and making a list over all the reasons why people struggle with this. I realized there are many many reasons, but they basically all fall under 3 bigger categories., which I’ll share here…

Recommended books for beach volleyball players (The Learn Beach Volleyball Fast booklist)

I love reading books and taking shortcuts in my learning curve by “downloading ideas and information from people who have solved my problems before me”, rather than learning everything the hard and slow way. Every now and then, followers of the Learn Beach Volleyball Fast project share this mindset with me strongly enough to ask me for book recommendations on books that will make their beach volleyball careers and lives better.

I realized I should collect all the books I recommend in one place, where I can also add more books in the future when I find new ones etc. For now, this is that place….

How can I improve at beach volleyball?

Yesterday I received an email in my inbox, and the title said that my answer had been upvoted in Quora.

”Hmm, interesting, I wonder what I’ve written in Quora?” was my thought as it was a while ago I had answered anything there, it was basically a marketing strategy for growing this project that I played around with a little bit in the beginning of this project.

Anyway, after reading the post, I realized I kinda liked it. I have definately evolved a lot as a coach in the last 1.5 years since I wrote it, but I still think I agree with everything I wrote back then and it even contained some ways of thinking that I had myself kind of forgotten!

#1 - Learning faster than most people with John Richardson - The Learn Beach Volleyball Fast Podcast

#1 - Learning faster than most people with John Richardson - The Learn Beach Volleyball Fast Podcast

Are there things one can do to learn sports (whether it's beach volleyball, golf, or something else) faster and more efficiently than the average player/athlete?

John Richardson who succeeded in his one year golf challenge that had critics all over the world telling his goal was flat out impossible and pro players telling him to "dream on", definately thinks there are a lot of things one can optimize to learn sports faster than most. And to be fair, so does Alex who is the creator of the Learn Beach Volleyball Fast project and the host of the Learn Beach Volleyball Fast podcast. Join the first ever episode of the podcast to listen in on a discussion about tons of things that could accelerate also your sports career!
